K-tainer at the CSRD Knowledge Event: Preparing for the Future of Sustainability Reporting
Published on 11 October 2024
Ronald Vrijenhoef from K-tainer received an invitation from MKB Rotterdam to participate in the first CSRD knowledge event, organized by the CSRD Collective. This event took place at the KAS office in Woerden, a very neat venue that contributed to the professional atmosphere of the event.
The event focused on pragmatic and future-oriented discussions, and we recognize the necessity of this knowledge in the current business environment. It was great to see that the industry, accountants, and experts are collectively addressing these issues. We must help and support each other as companies and not tackle everything individually. Each industry has its own products and knowledge, and by sharing, we can progress together.
At K-tainer, we understand that SMEs are the strength of the Netherlands. We have also been proactive in sustainability since 2016 with our Lean & Green personal mobility plan, achieving our first Lean & Green star in 2020. However, as an SME, making the right decisions regarding knowledge and budget can sometimes be challenging.
During the event, companies like MSQ presented and shared insights into their operations. Important questions were discussed, such as: Is it better to handle compliance in-house or to outsource it? How much work is involved? How many people do you need? And what is the time commitment required over the years?
The second breakout session included a game that was very enjoyable to participate in. This game addressed various aspects such as raw materials, production, logistics, factories, and consumers, contributing to an interactive and educational experience.
It was also noted that not everything is clear yet, and there are questions about the direction in which sustainability reporting is heading and how to formulate it. A concern raised is that only large companies, which are required to comply with these reporting standards, may become even larger, leaving SMEs behind. This underscores the urgency of collaboration and transparency within the sector.
Additionally, several breakout sessions were held where valuable insights were shared about the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This new EU directive expands the scope of sustainability reporting and will affect not only large companies but also SMEs that engage with them.
At K-tainer, we are determined to stay at the forefront and ensure that we continue to meet the latest sustainability standards
